Often referred to as medical management, home nursing services involve a registered nurse attending your home to provide in-home care to patients that need assistance with a variety of medical issues.
In consultation with the client’s doctor, these nurses work to develop plans to achieve medical-related goals based on the client’s needs.
There is a range of in-home care services that a registered nurse can assist with. These include:
- Wound management. It’s incredibly important that bandages are changed regularly, the wound itself is cleaned regularly to prevent infection, and generally ensuring that the wound doesn’t become worse.
- Medication management. A nurse will assist in administering medication for conditions such as general pain, antiviral, anti-nausea, and more. Typically, these are prescribed on advice from the client’s GP or physician.
- IV Therapy. If a client is struggling to get the necessary fluids into their body orally, then a home nurse can implement some IV therapy through the use of electrolytes to ensure the client is getting what they need.
- Education. If a client is suffering from a chronic condition such as arthritis or diabetes, the nurse can be on hand to help educate them on some of the things that they can do to manage this on a daily basis.
In-home nursing care ranges anywhere from an hour a day through to 24-hours a day, 7 days a week care. This can be flexible and will depend on the client’s needs at the time.
