Am I eligible for government-funded home care?

You can pay for your care privately with Accent Home Care, or the Australian Government may subsidise the cost of your home support services, if you are eligible.

To find out if you are eligible, you need to be assessed by the government organisation "My Aged Care".

Services with Accent Home Care can begin once your government funding is assigned to you. If you are waiting, you have the option to pay privately until it comes through.

Before you apply for funding, read our FREE guide to home care, which includes helpful tips to ensure you receive all the support you need.

Your care team

At Accent Home Care, you'll be supported by a team of qualified, fully trained carers who will help you with the home care services you need, when you need them.

This is the first person you'll talk to at Accent Home Care.  They will answer your questions, help you understand and access government funding, and get you set up to start services with us.

You can speak with your Engagement Officer by phone, or, as we are based in Melbourne like you, we can also visit you at home.

Once you’re signed up, your Care Advisor will come to see you.

Accent Home Care Advisor's are experts in government-funded home care, and make everything easy and convenient for you.

First, they'll takes the time to listen to you and understand what’s most important and where you need support. Then, they’ll organise the services that fit your needs and make sure they’re delivered when required.

Finally, if your needs change, they’ll adjust your care and help arrange additional services to support you.

You will be visited by your own team of qualified,  dedicated people which includes personal care attendants, nurses, cleaners, gardeners, physiotherapists and podiatrists, just to name a few.

At Accent Home Care, we are proud to have one of the lowest turnover rates in the industry, which means you benefit from long-term relationships with trusted carers who truly understand your needs and preferences.

We understand things can change at a moment’s notice. So, if you need to change a service day or time,  our team is quick call away here – just like your personal help line!

Are you with another home care provider but looking to change?

Switching to Accent Home Care is simple.

Start by contacting our team via phone, email, or our website. We’ll arrange a personalised consultation to assess your needs and create a tailored care plan. Once everything is set, we’ll smoothly transition your care, minimizing any disruption.

Should you need more support in the future, like nursing home or retirement living options, we’re here to assist every step of the way.

A Home Care Package, often abbreviated to HCP, is a program funded by the Australian Government which provides services to older Australians so they can live at home for as long as possible.  Accent Home Care is an approved supplier of Home Care Packages.  There are four levels of Home Care Package funding ,  supporting people who need basic help to those with more complex needs.

To apply for a Home Care Package you need to first register with the Australian Government.

Contact the Australian Government Aged care services, “My Aged Care” on 1800 200 422 and request an assessment for a Home Care Package. You can also visit myagedcare.gov.au.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme, often abbreviated to CHSP,  is an entry level government funded service which provides in-home and community support.

CHSP services are restricted to specific areas such as personal care, cleaning, nursing and attending social support group outings.

CHSP provides basic funding and has more restrictions on the support you can receive, but it is allocated more quickly.

Many people receive CHSP funding before being approved for a Home Care Package, however, a Home Care Package is often preferred as it offers more flexibility to suit your individual needs.

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme offers basic, short-term help, while Home Care Packages provide ongoing, flexible support with higher funding. Commonwealth Home Support Programme funding is usually approved quickly, while Home Care Package funding can take 12 months or more.

We offer both services, but the government limits how many Commonwealth Home Support Programme clients we can accept.

There are no limits on Home Care Package clients.

As is sometimes the case when applying for government funding, there may be a wait time before you receive the financial funding you need.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funding is usually approved more quickly, but a Home Care Package can take 12 months or more.

While this wait can be frustrating, we recommend you keep in touch with us during this time, and we can also help with privately funded home care services to support you in the meantime.

Accent Home Care provides Home Care Packages, Commonwealth Home Support Programme, Private Home Care Services, Social Groups, Carer Events and Companionship volunteer services?

Yes, you can choose your own Home Care Package provider. The Australian Government allows you to select a provider that best suits your needs and preferences. You can also switch providers if you're not satisfied with your current service.

Self managed home care means that you select and hire your own care workers, and manage your own budget and invoices.

It can be a lot of work to organise services yourself, and that's why Accent Home Care clients prefer the ease and convenience of working with an Accent Home Care Partner.

Care Partners guide you through every step of your care journey, and make sure you maximise the funding allocated to you, especially if you are new to Aged Care and do not understand the system well.

In addition they will organise and schedule your care workers, help you feel confident, supported, and at ease, and enable you to live your life to the fullest.

Many of our Care Partners speak other languages in addition to English, ensuring you can communicate comfortably and feel confident that your needs will be understood.

Accent Home Care is a division of Tabulam and Templer Homes for the Aged (TTHA), a not for profit aged care specialist which has been providing aged care services in Melbourne since 1972. Our head office, along with the TTHA Retirement Living and Residential Aged Care facility, is located in Bayswater.
